Moog is selling modulars again.

Home / Cool Gear / Moog is selling modulars again.

That’s a shot of the re-introduced Moog Modular System 55. It’ll cost ya about $30,000.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Moogs, and I have loved them since I first saw the cover of “Switched-On Bach” (even tho’ Bach’s headphones are plugged into the input of a filter).sob

Buuuuuut, they are so severely overpriced I’m afraid these new boxes are destined to be tax sinkholes for some rich guys.

A couple of synth bloggers have latched onto this situation and have some harsh comments.

MsModular writes “Dear Moog, Your Modular Systems Are Overpriced” and Roger Arrick at synthesizers.com thinks so, too. Roger builds and sells similar gear at a fraction of the cost. The Moog module format is known as “5U,” but don’t think you’ll be able to plug one of his 5U modules into your overpriced Moog… the power connector is different, 5U trigger/gate isn’t a “switch trigger” like Moog’s, and the differences go on for a while. Both of these are interesting reads.

I have Eurorack because I am a man without a giant trust fund.
